Game Developer. Dungeon Master.

The Story So far

Since graduating from Queen's University Belfast in the Summer of 2016 with an MEng in Computer Games Development, I have started and headed two game development teams, and worked as a Developer in 2 more.

I founded Red Spear, in 2016, for the UK Games Fund Tranzfuser Program, creating Gravity Stomp. Competition was excellent and fierce, and we were unsuccessful in progressing through that program, but were still pleased with the progress we had made and the (perhaps overly ambitious), game prototype that we had created.​

In the summer of 2017, an opportunity for funding was presented to me, and so I returned to Northern Ireland to found One More Adventure Ltd, with some former members of Red Spear. We began work on Party Animals that September.

In 2021, I was hired as the Lead Developer at Earthbound Games to begin re-development of their vehicular sports game, "Axiom Soccer", built in UE4. Eventually we pivoted into a significant redesign which became "Soccer Bots", which added hero-shooter aspects to the game.

In 2022, I moved to Malta to work as a Gameplay Programmer on the prototype of "Veil" a Demonic Co-op FPS created by Graewolv Games in UE5. Once more, I was involved in every aspect of programming and development, from player abilities, to Enemy AI, to Game Modes and other systems. ​​

Past and Present

VEIL

Modern day tactical battle mages

In August 2022, I moved to Malta to work on VEIL with Graewolv Games.

VEIL is a co-op Demonic FPS, developed in UE5,  where the players must work together to complete missions against the demonic forces invading Velumgrad.

Occult Operators make use of a combination of modern weapons, and their Demonic powers to overcome enemies.

As a Gameplay Developer, I worked on many aspects of the game, including:

  • Character abilities, making use of the Gameplay Ability System in UE. Shooting, Teleporting, Lock picking, Executions etc.

  • Networking Abilities and animations

  • Enemy AI, including perception, group behaviours, environment interaction, climbing/jumping, and terrain destruction.

Soccer Bots

Why kick when you can shoot?

In May 2021, I began work to redevelop "Axiom Soccer" into "Soccer Bots", a 3v3 sport game where players took control of bots with different abilities to score goals against eachother.

I was the lead developer and thus touched every part of the  game, including:

  • Creating an ability system to allow each character to have unique powers.

  • Weapon systems

  • Network coding

  • Game modes and tutorial levels

Party Animals

A multiplayer party bonanza

Party Animals is a local multiplayer party game created by myself and my studio, One More Adventure. It currently consists of 9 mini games, each with unique gameplay and characters.

Development began in September 2017 with assistance from NI Screen. Party Animals was created using the Unity game engine.

​

My work included;

  • Develop core gameplay loops for various mini-games using C# in the Unity Engine.

  • Refactor, iterate upon and optimize our code base to improve performance and efficiency.

  • Underlying game systems, managing game, tournament, and player states etc.

Gravity Stomp

Honor. Glory. Corporate Sponsorship.

Gravity Stomp is an online multiplayer FPS. The difference is, every player is in control of the direction of their own personal gravity, which can be used to devastating effect.

Gravity stomp was created in 10 weeks in 2016, as a prototype for the Transfuzer program, using Unreal Engine. It was developed by my former 4 man team, Red Spear.

My work included;

  • Implement gameplay mechanics such as gunfire and controlling gravity shifting.

  • Design and create maps/levels.

  • Network coding using Unreal Engines networking systems.
